Also, specific occurrences have also been captured through cameras. Locals do not go to this place after sunset.
Dumas Beach, Gujarat
Located near to Surat, Dumas Beach carries the legends of people who went and never came back. Undoubtedly, it is located in a very developed city of the state, but the winds of this beach are known to blow strange whispers into the ears of the people who dare to visit this place. People are not advised to cross a particular line on the beach.
This place is believed to be a burial for the Hindus. There, people say that it is the resting place of the tortured souls and that is why people mysteriously disappear. D’Souza Chawl, Mumbai
There have been many haunted stories of this place. The most popular one is of the well in the chawl. Residents believe that a woman from the chawl fell into the well while pulling water from it. The boundary-less well is now a site of mystery. The ‘lady of the well’ is now known to haunt the area every night. People claim to have seen white apparition who they consider to be the lady. But there have been no reports of any unwanted harmful cases. The ghost only walks around the site without causing any harm to anybody. But the lady vanishes as soon as the sun rises. However, people do not prefer visiting this place very often.
Shaniwarwada Fort, Pune
This fort is a beauty if you visit it in the daytime. It was built by the Peshwa dynasty ruling over the Maratha empire. But who knew that this place would be a haunted place rather than a historical site of importance? The most common and strange occurrences are the activities during a full moon night. Local people say that paranormal activities increase on a full moon night.
Stories speak about a young prince who was brutally murdered by his kin inside the fort. Therefore, the spirit is supposedly haunting the fort since then. Locals also claim to hear violent screams which sound like a boy running for help. Visitors are allowed to enter this site only during morning hours. Isn’t it spooky enough?
GP Block, Meerut
The GP Block is not a very well known place by people. Probably because people now avoid this place. Despite this, there have been sightings of some apparitions quite sometimes. People have noticed four males sitting inside the residence and enjoying alcohol with a lit candle in the room. However, these spirits are known to be friendly and not causing any harm to people who visit this place.
But after a point, there were also reports of people seeing a young girl coming out of the house in a red dress. Since then, people have entirely stopped visiting this place, and now this is one of the most abandoned places in India.
Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad
Rarely did anyone imagine that a big film city like Ramoji will make it to this list of most haunted places in India. According to history, this film city is built on the war grounds of the Nizam Sultans. People have reported having experienced strange incidents. Sometimes lights keep falling off, light men have been pushed and suffered injuries, people find strange marks on the mirror which seems to be in Urdu script.
Also, it seems that the ghosts love troubling the girls present in this place. They have experienced tearing off their clothes, knock on the bathroom doors, and also other similar incidents. Though people have taken many preventive measures, all seem to go in vain.
Can you imagine that an entire village could be haunted? Yes. Kuldhara in Rajasthan is one such place. The evil disposition surrounding this town does not let anyone stay or visit it. This village has been deserted since the 1800s when the residents of this village vanished overnight.
Legends say that this village was home to wealthy people known as the Paliwal Brahmins. A minister named Salim Singh fell in love with a villager’s daughter and wished to marry her. Unwilling to marry off this girl to the minister, the villagers did not support the wish. Therefore, the minister threatened the villagers to raise the taxes by an irrationally high amount.
The villagers found only one way to deal with the problem. They left the village overnight, to protect the girl from the tyranny of the minister. But before leaving, they cursed the village and thus it is an abandoned place.
Fernhill Hotel, Ooty
This hotel is known for the shooting of the film Raaz. But did you know that the cast and crew did experience some paranormal activities while shooting the movie? The movie indeed gave us chills, but there were several other unusual events behind the scenes because of which the hotel is now permanently closed.
Actress Bipasha Basu accepted the occurrence of certain paranormal activities in this hotel. Recalling one such incident, she mentions about choreographer Saroj Khan and her troupe entering the hotel late at night. The dancers had an early shoot hence they wanted to sleep. But little did they know that their sleep would be disturbed by some noise on the first floor which seemed to be that of rearranging furniture.
What next? They contacted the receptionist who then escorted them outside the hotel only to show that the hotel had no first floor. Scary, isn’t it? After these incidents, the authorities shut down the hotel.
Mukesh Mills, Mumbai
This mill was shut down after the disastrous fire incident in the year 1980. It has been abandoned by then. But filmmakers started using this site to shoot horror movies. Since then it came to the limelight. The cast and crew have had experienced several mystical occurrences. After such incidents, many actors have denied shooting in this place.
The most unusual incident that occurred while shooting in the mill was when a female actress asked the crew to leave the place in a manly voice. It was believed that she was then possessed by a spirit who had inhabited the mills.
Savoy Hotel, Mussoorie
Have you read Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mysterious Affair at Styles?’ If you have, then you will be able to relate to the story related to this hotel. The Savoy Hotel in Mussoorie is known for the murder incident of Lady Garnet Orme. Investigations have proved that she was poisoned to death. But what makes this creepy is the feeling of the presence of this lady by many of the employees of the hotel and the customers. They even claim to have heard weird sounds from the room she was killed.
Vas Villa, Bangalore
This Villa narrates a sad story of two sisters. Located at the St. Marks Road in Bangalore, this Villa was inhabited by two sisters named Doice Vas and Vera Vas. It was in 2001 that Doice Vas was mercilessly stabbed to death in the bedroom. Vera left the place, and since then this villa is a haunted one.
With this awful past, this Villa has been deserted and has also witnessed paranormal activities. Many teams have tried investigating the place and have established the presence of negative energy in this place.
Bhangarh Fort in Alwar, Rajasthan
Bhangarh Fort in Alwar tops the list of haunted places in India. Not just haunted, it is also abandoned, and visitors are not allowed to pay a frequent visit to this town. People are not allowed to visit this place after sunset. According to folklore, this place says a story of a magician who fell in love with a local princess and wanted to marry her. She was unhappy with the decision. The decision made the magician cast a spell on her to make her surrender to his love. But the princess knew the supernatural powers through which she got aware of the magician’s plans and soon found a way to kill him.
But the magician proved to be eviler than the thought. Before his death, he cast a dark spell on the palace which then led to its doom. And now, one can only find ruins of the castle. Though the tourism industry promotes this place as a tourist destination, people never try visiting it after sunset.
Writers’ Building, Kolkata
This building dates back its establishment during the British era. Primarily built for the writers working for the East India Company, this building was destroyed in a natural disaster. Though the government rebuilt it on the same premises till then, it became haunted.
The story of being haunted dates back to the 1930s, when on the 8th of December, three young freedom fighters- Benoy Basu, Badal Gupta, and Dinesh Gupta killed Captain Simpson inside the building. According to rumors, the ghost of the Late Captain still haunts the building.
The building is now the secretariat of the state government. Though people work in this place, they have had heard desperate cries for help at night form the vacant rooms.
